About Jemima
As a skilled active listener with a soothing voice, I create a calming environment where you can feel understood, as I provide guidance to help you overcome obstacles and achieve meaningful goals. I offer innovative, tailored support with concerns such as trauma, stress, anxiety, and self-esteem, drawing on my non-profit experience in Indonesia, where I served a diverse range of clients. In addition, my understanding of unique immigrant challenges has been deepened through writing my master’s thesis on blended-family immigrants in Canada and conducting SSHRC-funded research on immigrant experiences in Canada — this work has shaped my passion for diversity and for helping others thrive.
I specialize in supporting youth and young adults facing challenges around mental health, identity, and career development. Drawing on my education in both clinical psychology and social work, I blend theoretical frameworks, including behavioral, cognitive, and humanistic perspectives. My non-judgmental, caring approach fosters trust, while my experience in hospital settings and social work equips me to provide effective, compassionate support tailored to individual needs.
I understand that navigating life’s challenges can feel overwhelming, especially during times of transition, or when adjusting to new environments. You deserve compassionate support personalized to your unique experiences. Jemima’s Story
My journey toward becoming a therapist began with a deep passion for understanding human behaviour and supporting those in need. Growing up in a blended family as a first-generation immigrant from Indonesia, I experienced firsthand the complexities of cultural identity and adaptation. This fueled my desire to help others navigate similar challenges.
I pursued a Bachelor’s in Psychology, and later, a Master’s in Social Work at the University of Toronto, where I gained a solid foundation in various therapeutic modalities. Beyond this, my experiences as a youth mentor and counselor allowed me to work closely with young people facing mental health challenges, identity issues, and life transitions.
Through my work experiences, I discovered the power of empathy, active listening, and fostering a safe space for individuals to explore their feelings. Each client’s story has enriched my understanding of resilience and healing, and today, I am dedicated to empowering people on their own unique journeys, using my background and insights to provide compassionate, effective support.
