About Danicia

Understanding yourself and the challenges you face is no easy feat. However, deciding to unpack this with the support of another person shows that you value yourself. Those who work with me might be struggling to manage day-to-day responsibilities, grieving a loss, or needing skills to help regulate their emotions, to name a few examples – whatever it is you are facing, I am incredibly happy that you are here.

Our lives unfold at rates that can sometimes feel overwhelming. “Stillness in the noise is where strength is found” – these words came to my awareness when I found myself feeling defeated in my own life. Since that moment, I have encouraged stillness as a precursor to strength. I believe that being still allows us to become aware of our internal state of emotions and thoughts, as well as our external surroundings, which can grant us the clarity needed to face challenges and uncertainties.

My goal is to provide a therapeutic space for you to become still amid the noise of life; a space where non-judgement meets acceptance in the recollection of your lived experience. I am dedicated to supporting you in creating a life worth living, and I encourage stillness, silence, curiosity, forgiveness, and compassion as pathways to change & newfound strength. My approach in sessions is infused with wit, humour, irreverence, gratitude, accountability, and transparency—all I ask is that you come as you are. Whether it’s your first time in therapy or your fifth, I will guide you through the process at a pace that best suits your needs. My hope is to collaborate with you to discover and implement helpful strategies as you continue navigating through your circumstances, and I am ecstatic to be a part of your journey!

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to connect with me – you can use the links on this page to book a free 15-minute phone consultation or a session. One of the most important parts of therapy is finding the right therapist for you, so even if we are not the right match, I will be happy to help you in your search.

Danicia’s Story

I decided I wanted to be a therapist at the age of 15; however, my journey to this career was not linear. I struggled academically, finding it hard to remain mentally and emotionally focused on tasks and assignments. These challenges also impaired my ability to balance and maintain friendships, relationships, and familial connections. At this point, I began to feel the weight of my life experience, and eventually I accepted that I could no longer balance these challenges on my own. In my second year of university, I began to work with a therapist, and we collaborated on strategies to help me manage my life circumstances. Through this, I gained a greater love not only for myself, but for psychology and personal development.

As my journey toward psychotherapy has unfolded, I recognize the importance and influence of my intersectionality and how it impacts the field of mental health. According to the Mental Health Commission of Canada, black-identifying mental health professionals are underrepresented in this field. Therefore, as an Afro-Caribbean black woman who practices psychotherapy, I am more than honoured to provide a space for others to discover their potential and actively work toward their life goals.
