About Carmelle’s Training and Credentials
I am a Registered Social Worker (RSW) in Ontario with a Masters of Social Work (MSW) in health and mental health.
About Carmelle
Hi, I’m Carmelle. I believe that everyone can benefit from support from a mental health professional. As a therapist and social worker, I feel honoured that I get to witness your journey of growth. Since starting my career as a social worker and a therapist in 2017, authenticity and empathy has guided my work with diverse and marginalized communities. After transitioning to this field from journalism, I want to ensure that you are the author of your own story. My priority is creating an environment where you feel comfortable and safe during therapy sessions. I don’t see individuals as problems that need fixing.
I work collaboratively with adults of all ages to provide a non-judgemental space to explore how your experiences, identities and traits can both challenge you and give you strength. No one knows you better than yourself. So I take my lead from you. Depending on your unique needs and preferences, I will use a variety of strategies to facilitate insight and growth. I strive to work from anti-oppressive and trauma-informed principles. This means that I will consider with you how your family, school, workplace, relationships and social structures may be impacting you. I also value ongoing learning and education – both informal and formal.
If you want to know more or have any questions, do not hesitate to call or email me. You can also book a free 15-minute phone consultation or a virtual/in-person session on our site. Even if you and I are not the right fit, I would be happy to help you find another therapist.
Carmelle’s Story
As a queer and twice exceptional (2E) woman with an immigrant parent, I know what it’s like to feel different. Stress, anxiety, perfectionism, masking, erasure, burnout, guilt, shame, loneliness and alienation are some of the experiences common to members of marginalized communities. Being a highly sensitive person (HSP) has further amplified the intensity of the emotions and environments around me. Wanting to better understand and help others, I employed my dedication to fairness, truth and accuracy to become a journalist. However, I felt detached from my story subjects and constrained from providing them with ongoing support. So I decided to become a social worker and therapist. My understanding, curiosity, advocacy, attention to detail and ability to form strong connections with people from all walks of life made me a successful journalist; those same qualities are invaluable to me in my current career as a therapist.
Therapy with Carmelle
In our first session together, you’ll have an opportunity to ask any unanswered questions you have about me. I’ll ask you some background info about yourself to better understand who you are, what your life is and has been like and the important relationships in it. We’ll talk about your reasons for therapy and how we can work together moving forward. Finally, we’ll go into more depth about what you can expect from therapy, including consent and privacy procedures.
