About Lorna’s Training and Credentials

Prior to my work as a psychotherapist, I worked as a recreation therapist in mental health for many years and feel that this has influenced my approach in therapy in a positive way, supporting a creative and open-minded approach when working with clients. I am also a certified yoga teacher and have qualifications to practice equine-assisted psychotherapy. I also have an invested interest in animal-assisted therapy.

I feel that it is a great privilege and honour to be doing this work, and to walk alongside clients on their respective healing journeys. I believe that every individual is the expert of themselves and their life experiences. By working collaboratively, I aim to support clients in connecting with their needs, dreams, and hopes. I believe clients hold the answers inside themselves, and together we can discover them.

My approach is trauma-informed, non-directive, strength-based, and client-centered. Healing, the discovery of possibilities, one’s resilience, and one’s gifts can all be part of the therapy process, depending on what you are seeking. I also support my clients in meaning-making of their experiences and challenges.

Through my collaborative approach, I strive to create an environment that feels safe for clients to express themselves and be who they truly are.  I am open-minded and non-judgmental. I appreciate the courage it takes to come to therapy in the first place.  I work with clients holistically, recognizing that the things they may struggle with are only one aspect of themselves, and so I give consideration to the spiritual, emotional, physical, cognitive, and relational strengths and needs.

If you’d like to learn more about how therapy works and how I can support you, please feel free to reach out to me. We can book a 15 minute consultation to get us started. Even if you and I are not the right fit, I would be happy to help you find the right therapist for you.
