About Shira
Everyone has times when they feel overwhelmed, lost and alone; I am here to help you see the small lights through whatever tunnel you are going through. Our sessions will provide a space where you can come as you are, realize your goals and needs, assemble your toolbox of skills and strategies, and begin to heal. Whether you want to work through stress, boundary-setting, relationship issues, or personal struggles in your daily life, I’m ready to take those on with you. I also offer couples and family therapy sessions, where we will work on growing understanding, improving communication and connection, and mending old wounds.
My approach is grounded in realistic, manageable expectations, and finding humour, understanding, and support through the hard stuff. In sessions, we will collaborate to engage your strengths, understand your experience, and set goals that reflect your values. Our sessions will always be devoted to finding the path that best suits you.
I am always happy to talk about my approach to therapy and help you decide if I am the right fit for you. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call or email me. You can also book a session on our site or book a free 15-minute phone consultation. Even if you and I are not the right fit, I would be happy to help you find the right therapist for you.
Therapy with Shira
In our first session, we will take a broad look at your life and personal history, identifying your strengths and supports, as well as your struggles and needs. The time will be spent getting to know you and your reasons for coming to therapy. Then, we will begin collaborating on your goals, and determine together the best ways to help you achieve them.
Shira’s Story
My interest in therapy began in teaching; working with students who struggled academically, I learned that every “problem” has hidden layers, and that there truly are no “bad kids”. Everyone wants to do well but systems, circumstances, prior experiences and traumas, and poor communication can all muddy the waters. I wanted to be able to address the root causes, and work with the whole family to support growth and change. When I began working as a therapist with individuals, these themes held true – we are our relationships, experiences, and past learnings. Sometimes those things leave us feeling stuck, broken, or unable to talk about what matters most. In individual therapy, we work on breaking that ice within yourself, learning to recognize, accept, and work with who you are and what you have been through. With couples and families, we will address the unasked questions, learn to see each other more clearly, and grow into relationships that centre compassion and understanding.
