About Marina

I spent the first 10 years of my career as a social scientist, investigating how people work, think, and make decisions. As I collected data by speaking to people, I heard stories of strength, resilience, and courage. I also heard stories of humiliation, abuse, and grief. Throughout, what I have found most compelling is the storytelling. If you are here and are thinking about reaching out, I cannot wait to hear your story.

My own story involves my personal journey with therapy, which has brought me to this point. For most of my life, I felt like I was walking through a dark house, stumbling into things and getting cuts and bruises along the way. When I started therapy, it felt like someone had switched the light on, and only then did I realize the light had even been off! This allowed me to see all of the obstacles I had been running into while still in the dark. My goal is to help each client turn on the light for themselves, while supporting them to view themselves with greater compassion and curiosity, rather than criticism and judgement.

While my approach to therapy is adapted to the needs of each client, I naturally lean towards methods involving narrative work, including story-telling, complemented by trauma-informed techniques. I also see my work as a therapist as deeply embedded within broader social justice and humanitarian issues. I am a firm believer that life is difficult, and that therapy helps us navigate it with fewer bruises, scrapes, and injuries to our mental health. My hope for my clients is that they might move through life with the confidence that they can get through anything.

I am here for you, whether you are severely hurting, are recovering from past wounds, or want to prevent future injuries, and I would be honoured to help you reach your goals through therapy. I expect you may have questions, so please feel free to contact me and ask anything you would like.
